UK Parliament Week 2023

Students took the opportunity to actively engage in UK Parliament Week, a week-long event dedicated to learning about the workings of the parliamentary processes.

All year groups immersed themselves in parliament-themed activities including treasure hunts, interactive games and a ‘Find Your Perfect Parliament Job’ career activity.

To round off the week, the school community voted on a proposed bill to lower the voting age to 16. Results of the ballot will be published in next week’s newsletter.

“It was very interesting to learn how a bill becomes law and the involvement of the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and the Monarchy.” Hayden.A - Year 9

“Without Parliament the country would be a completely different place. The treasure hunt and pin the parliament building on the country game were a lot of fun.” Bailey.O - Year 8

“I believe Parliament is important because decisions are made that effect the entire country.” Archie.P - Year 7

“Parliament helps MP’s to work together as a group to make important decisions. During the week I learned that I do not agree with some of the government’s policies.” Declan.P - Year 8

“I think that Parliament is important to an extent because of some of the decisions they make. Some of the recent decisions Parliament have made I do not agree with.” Lucy.P - Year 9

“Parliament is important because we need to understand government laws and how they work. I have learned a lot about the main political parties and how MP’s deal with different situations.” Emily.B - Year 8
