Students Engage in British Science Week

Students at the Lower Academy celebrated British Science Week 2024, and its theme, Time, through a variety of lunchtime workshops culminating in a science themed drop-down day.

Our budding scientist’s week of discovery included learning about the universe, how the periodic table was developed and, exploring a series of microscope slides in an online simulator.

A number of careers were discussed, from astrophysicists to geologists. Additionally, students were exposed to many different role models that have broken stereotypes within science careers.

“Science is important because it gives us knowledge, improves education and increases quality of lives.” Evie-May.S -Year 9

“I enjoyed science week because I had the opportunity to learn about space. It was a childhood obsession, and it is a joy to have this nostalgia of being small again.” Amber.J – Year 9

“I like science experiments because they help me to understand a topic better.” Serah.G – Year 9

“The week allowed students to develop their curiosity and diligence surrounding science. The enriching series of workshops were amazing opportunities for all involved! I would like to thank everyone for immersing themselves into the scientific world and all of those supporting science. Teamwork at its best, inside and outside of the classroom. The science department is extremely proud!” G.Marley - Key Stage 3 Science Leader
