Year 9 student Cenett.Y, a dedicated young carer, recently took part in a national event supporting the work of local charity Kool Carers. Cenett, an active member of the Kool Carers club, enjoys taking part in fun activities such as camping, crafts, laser tag, and rock climbing. The charity provides essential support for young carers like Cenett, who balance caring for family members with their daily lives.

On Friday, October 11th, Cenett had the incredible opportunity to be interviewed by Radio X host Toby Tarrant as part of Global’s Make Some Noise Day, an annual event that raises money for small charities making a big impact in their communities. During the interview, Cenett shared her experiences of being a young carer, including how it affects her daily life and mental health. Her family, listening from Australia and Turkey, tuned in to the live broadcast.

In addition to the interview, Cenett joined Toby for a special challenge, where he raised over £250,000 for charity by pedalling more than 50 miles along the Thames in a giant unicorn pedalo. Cenett pedalled alongside him for half a mile of the journey. After the challenge, she also beat Toby in a friendly game of pool!

Reflecting on the experience, Cenett said; “Meeting and being interviewed by Toby Tarrant on Radio X was amazing, and having the chance to help with the Thames Challenge was brilliant. It’s important to me because it raises awareness for young carers and the Kool Carers charity.”
