Lower Academy Choir Perform at Essex Year of Reading Event

On Wednesday 12th October, forty students from Years 7 & 8 performed at The Towngate Theatre as part of the Essex Year of Reading event, organised by Essex County Council.

This unique opportunity to perform on stage with a Youth Rock Band in front of 800 people was presented to the Basildon Lower Academy choir; they also met comedic author Michael Rosen.

Choir leader Miss Stoddard said “Our students at Basildon Lower Academy continue to surprise me with every event that we organise. Our students sang their hearts out and were praised not only by theatre staff on their impeccable behaviour, but audience members were amazed at how wonderfully they sang curiously wanting to know which school these amazing students were from. I couldn't have announced 'Basildon Lower Academy' with any more pride in my heart. They are an absolute credit to our school and I cannot wait for the next event to create even more memories for our students.”

“The entire day was a good experience. Before performing I felt nervous but also excited. To perform twice and to such a huge audience was super good.” Mia. K - Year 7

“It was a great experience. I got to meet Michael Rosen and shake his hand. I felt very excited to perform on stage. The audience and teachers were very kind.” David.S - Year 8

“My experience was amazing; the whole day was full of good vibes. When I started singing, I was nervous but my nerves soon flowed away. Live, Laugh, Love.” Edmila.O - Year 8

“It was an awesome experience to meet Michael Rosen and get his signature. The entire experience was brilliant.” Jayden.D - Year 8

“I had an amazing experience performing at the theatre. It was really good to perform in front of students from my old primary school. I love singing with the school choir and I hope this memory will last. We got to see Michael Rosen perform, which I loved and the band we sang with were amazing too.” Kaci.C - Year 7
